Even if the white season can bring the freezing of the Danube, the birdwatching activity does not stop with the first layers of ice.
During the winter you can see a lot of bird species, some of them staying here all year round, others staying during the winter season in this place with vast expanses of water and fields with abundant food.
It is known that large flocks of geese come to winter in the fields of the delta (Chiliei field) or on the huge plains around the lakes such as Lunca, Sinoe, Mihai Viteazu, Agighiol, Plopu.
Thus, depending on the weather conditions, we organize, with an all-terrain vehicle, trips to observe the red-breasted goose (Branta ruficollis), the lesser white fronted goose (Anser erythropus), the white fronted goose (Anser albifrons), whooper swan (Cygnus cygnus), taiga swan (Cygnus bewickii).
Also in these tours we can also observe the rough legged buzzasrd (Buteo lagopus), the long legged buzzard (Buteo ruffinus), various species of thrushes, finches, etc.
The tours can be for one day or several days, upon request and depend on the weather conditions. Winter clothing is absolutely necessary, boots or tall, waterproof boots, clothes against the wind and cold, gloves.
Usually in these shifts they leave very early, the geese tend to get off the water just after sunrise, that’s when we have the best observations.
When the lakes are not frozen, we organize trips to the delta to observe and photograph the greater spooted eagle (Clanga clanga), white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), smew (Mergus albellus), goldeneye duck (Bucephala clangula), etc.
This excursion is done by open boat, warm clothing and shoes are absolutely necessary.
